pulse coupled mag OR a shower of sparks ignition system. Figures x and x illustrate typical wiring for two Shower of Sparks applications. The first is typical of single engine airplanes with OFF LEFT RIGHT BOTH START key switches. This type of ignition switch can be fitted with an extra function which
A shower of sparks is produced at the spark plug due to this opening and closing of the vibrator points V1 while the main and retard contact assemblies are open. When the engine fires and begins to increase speed, the ignition and starter switch is realesed and automatically returns to the "BOTH" position.
Shower of Sparks ponent Parts The “Shower of Sparks” system is composed of a magneto with two sets of points installed, a vibrator switch, ignition switch and the aircraft battery. The magneto has two sets of contact points.

A Shower of Sparks Test Building the testing device WILLIAM RYNONE Iam aware of two supplemental mechanisms used in common piston aircraft engine starting systems. They are the “shower of sparks” and “impulse coupling.” Both have advantages and disadvantages. Recently the shower of sparks module failed on my airplane. After 43
For the Model 36 A36, the Shower of Sparks system was used on aircraft E 1 through E 155. Later schematics do not show the SOS wiring. I do not know when it was used on earlier models but it was is a very popular way to start higher horsepowered engines.
“shower” of sparks across the spark plug, we increase the likelihood of igniting the fuel mixture in the cylinder. The induction vibrator does exactly this. It is a special form of buzzer which provides about 200 sparking pulses per second! E. Circuit Theory To keep it simple, here's how the vibrator does its job: Current flows
Vibrator unit part number selection is based on electrical system voltage and magneto type. See Table 2 for vibrator applications. plete the Shower of Sparks wiring using standard 18 gage (or larger) aircraft wire as necessary. See Figure 1 or Figure 2 for typical wiring diagrams.
Now, there are two different systems that you will encounter as a pilot, which assist the magneto in producing a hot spark during start: Impluse coupling & shower of sparks.
This is the generic version of the brand name "Shower of Sparks". Magneto starting device for aircraft engine. This is the generic version of the brand name "Shower of Sparks".
